Do you want to try and save money? With the cost of packing materials on the rise, we’re sure you’re looking for ways to combat price increases and make savings where you can. With this in mind, we’ve come up with four ideas that could help you reduce your packaging costs…
1. Review the board grade of your boxes
Your boxes can be one of your most significant expenses, especially if you’re using lots of them! To take some of your packaging costs away, you can review the board grade of your cartons.
Reducing paper grade, switching to different fluting or moving over to test material rather than Kraft can all help you save pennies. Plus, it doesn’t mean that you have to compromise on the strength or protection your current boxes offer. The latest cardboard manufacturing techniques mean that you can now get higher performance from lower board grades!
2. Look at optimising your stretch wrap
New advances in stretch wrap manufacturing mean you could use lower micron films to secure your goods, without losing the strength and durability of higher micron films.
Plus, you may be able to make savings by reviewing your stretch wrap yield and usage. Our packaging specialists can help you do this by spending time in your packing operation. Different roll lengths, film types or application techniques may also help you improve your productivity, minimising labour down time.
3. Make your own void fill
If you have any spare cardboard, you can recycle it into economical and eco-friendly void fill using a carton shredder. Shredded cardboard has excellent cushioning properties, so you can protect your goods, as well as make savings.
4. See if you can use multi-function packaging
If you’re packing a range of goods, but your products have similar features, you may be able to invest in multi-function packaging.
In the past, we’ve helped customers by designing boxes and packaging inserts that can be used for multiple items. This reduces the amount you’re spending on packaging materials but can also help minimise your storage costs. Win-win!
